Poco has unveiled its first audio product, aiming for the entry-level market, while well-known brands have product lines in the true wireless audio area.

The Poco Pods truly wireless earphones, which retail for Rs. 1,199 in India, promise simplicity at a low price. Although these earphones don’t have many features, their affordable price makes up for it. Let’s explore whether the Poco Pods are a fair value for the money they cost and whether they are among the best affordable true wireless headsets on the market.

Design

The design of the Poco Pods True Wireless Earphones is quite generic, resembling other similar products like the Redmi Buds 4 Active. However, this simplicity isn’t necessarily a drawback. The earpieces are lightweight and durable, with a secure in-canal fit and a stem design. The headset comes in a signature black-and-yellow color scheme, with the Poco logo prominently displayed on the charging case.

The earpieces feature touch-sensitive controls, but these controls are fixed and non-customizable due to the lack of app support for the Poco Pods. Double-tapping either earpiece answers calls or controls music playback, while triple-tapping skips tracks or cancels calls. Unfortunately, skipping to the previous track requires using the paired smartphone.

Both earpieces can be long-pressed simultaneously to activate or deactivate the low-latency mode. Other gestures are available to put the headset into pairing mode or perform a factory reset, although putting the earphones into pairing mode is straightforward by disconnecting all other connected devices. However, the sound remains listenable and suitable for users seeking basic earphones to block out background noise.

Certain music genres and tracks, particularly those with strong bass frequencies, may better suit the Poco Pods’ tuning and sound. While some detail is lacking, specific genres, like beat-driven tracks, can sound enjoyable on these earphones. The lack of detail becomes less noticeable with certain genres, making these earphones better suited for specific music styles.

Call quality is acceptable and functional for both indoor and outdoor use, with decent microphone performance in quiet environments. However, outdoor performance may be less satisfactory despite the presence of environmental noise cancellation. The low-latency mode didn’t significantly impact audio latency in basic mobile games.

Battery

Battery life is reasonable, with the Poco Pods offering around five hours of continuous playback on a single charge for the earpieces. The charging case provides over three full additional charges, resulting in a total runtime of approximately 22-23 hours per charge cycle, slightly below the claimed 30-hour mark. This performance aligns with expectations, given the lack of advanced features and codec support.
